Not only have we entered 2009 facing huge economic uncertainty, but we’ve also had to stand by watching helplessly and in horror as natural disasters raged at opposite ends of the country, with unprecedented loss of life and property. HIA members are among those severely affected. HIA members are also among those always willing to put aside their daily lives to help those less fortunate. Many are already in the front line and, on behalf of the Victorian government, HIA has established a central database of members willing to provide time and/or materials to aid the bushfire recovery effort. For further information contact Sarah Moate on 03 9280 8275 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The federal government has also come to the aid of Australians in the form of its economic stimulus package, which promises new homes, more jobs, and much more. See page 10 for details. And if you’re interested in streamlining your business, check out HIA Contracts Online, which offers secure online access to a range of contracts from the convenience of your computer (p.92). You can also do yourself a favour by taking advantage of the opportunity to promote your business through the 2009 HIA Housing Awards (p.27).
